Tidying Up your UK Tax when you Emigrate to NZ
You'll need to let the UK Inland Revenue know that you are emigrating to New Zealand.
Contact your tax office, and request form P85 (Leaving the United Kingdom) and its associated guide HMRC6 (Residence, Domicile and Remittance Basis). These are both available online from http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ as well. If you are an employee leaving partway through a tax year, you may well be entitled to a rebate, so this is well worth sorting out!
Once you are overseas, you will mainly deal with the HM Revenue and Customs - Centre for Non-Residents. They have a pretty comprehensive website, www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr.
In general, even when you are tax resident in New Zealand, you are liable for tax on your UK income and investments. You may be sent a Self Assessment tax return to fill in. You are still eligible for any relevant personal allowances. New Zealand has a double taxation treaty with the UK, so you will not be taxed twice on any income.
